Sunday School at Walker Church
A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUNDAY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDANT…
I would like to invite everyone who is not already involved in Sunday School at Walker to take an opportunity to drop in on one or more of our classes. We have several adult classes and one youth class. I believe that Sunday School is a vital part of any church’s ministry. Sunday School provides opportunities to fellowship with your fellow congregation members in a small group session. Sunday School offers a different view of familiar scriptures or a new look at Bible lessons on scriptures and Bible events with which you may not be familiar. For instance, this past unit looked at a variety of studies from Deuteronomy and Numbers which are rarely covered in sermons.
The Sunday School classes at Walker have different structures and several different lesson plans so you may find a study course that would be of interest to you. If you believe that Sunday School is only for children, I encourage you to take another look at what Sunday School at Walker is all about. I ask that you pray for all of Walker’s ministries, our pastor and all of our teachers/facilitators so that God will bless us in our message, in our lives and in our discipleship. Thanks and see you on Sunday!
Haynes Standard
At Walker Church, Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m.
with a 15-minute assembly under the leadership of
Sunday school superintendent Haynes Standard. Class
time follows at 10:00. Currently adults have three
classes available to them. Elementary and middle school
children attend one class together, while toddlers
and babies go to the nursery. Walker's classes include
the following:
Moon Class
The Moon Sunday School Class would like to invite you to come to Sunday School. The Moon Class is the oldest Sunday School class at Walker. It was begun many, many years ago with Johnny and Allene Moon, Mildred and Sammy Bryan, Comer Tolbert and Mrs. Abbie Scoggins among others. The class was named the Moon Class in honor of Mr. Johnny Moon, a long time member of Walker and the Moon Class.
The Moon Class studies the International Lesson Series that is published by the United Methodist Church. The lessons are facilitated by Haynes Standard, Comer Tolbert and Mrs. Ann Williams. If you don’t have a Sunday School home, we’d love to have you drop by and visit with us or one of the other Sunday School classes at Walker. We believe that you will find a warm welcome, the opportunity to learn more about the Bible and our Christian faith and a deeper, more fruitful fellowship with your fellow Christians at Walker. Thanks and hope to see you soon.
Fellowship Class
The Fellowship Class also uses the Cokesbury International
lesson series as its curriculum. This class includes
a number of members who are also capable teachers,
and they rotate the teaching responsibility among
five of them: Doug Burt, Jim Meek, Clyde Smith, and Hal
Stewart.
SEMINAR Class
The Seminar Sunday School Class, after a brief hiatus in August, will meet again on September 9 as Donna Kicklighter begins a new study from Lee Strobel called ‘A Case For Christ”. If you’re a newcomer or just don’t have a regular Sunday School class, please join us for this 3 month series. We meet in the fellowship hall at 9:45.
Youth Class
Walker's youth attend one Sunday school class together,
and their studies are based on a rotational curriculum.
Each session of study encompasses eight weeks during
which the children study a particular topic by rotating
among different study stations which include art,
computer, cookery, games, music, science, story, and
video. This class is facilitated by a variety of adult
volunteers.
Nursery
Walker's Nursery Class meets during the regular Sunday
school hour and uses the Exploring Faith curriculum
from Cokesbury. This class is taught by Alice Bone.
New Beginnings Sunday School Class
Our class meets regularly in the Conference Room. Over a year ago, we embarked on the awesome study of the Bible, using the Serendipity Bible as our guide. Now we are in the middle of 2 Kings. Our class is discussion based on our Bible readings. We invite anyone who is not presently in a Sunday School class to join us for fun, fellowship, and inspiring discussions.
